What’s it all about?

Your whole body may benefit from a Reflexology treatment. It’s so much more than a foot massage. It’s based on the theory that the whole of the body is mirrored in the feet and that each part of the body has a reflex area on the feet and by massaging those specific points stress and tension can be relieved.

What is the aim of Reflexology?

The aim is to induce a state of relaxation and homeostasis (the term homeostasis is a Greek word meaning balance) boosting the body’s natural healing powers.
Reflexology is a holistic approach and takes into account the whole person; physical symptoms, psychological, environmental and nutritional factors, positive and negative and the impact they can have on the body. It is a pleasant and deeply relaxing therapy. Even those with ticklish feet or those in good health enjoy a Reflexology treatment.

Can Reflexology cure?

No. Reflexology does not claim to cure, diagnose, prescribe or treat specific conditions.

What’s a Reflexology treatment?

A Reflexology treatment combines the soothing touch of massage techniques combined with specific stimulation of the reflexes on the feet. Treatments can be carried out however you are most comfortable, either using your own furniture or my reclining chair, which is ideally suited for reflexology treatments. You only have to expose your feet and it has a surprisingly relaxing effect on the body.

What’s it good for?

People turn to reflexology for various reasons and it can be used alongside conventional medical when living with a chronic condition or simply for relaxation. Everyone responds to reflexology in different ways and are hoping for different outcomes, therefore, every treatment is tailored to suit your own specific needs.

There are general effects gained from a Reflexology treatment, those being;

  • Relief from the symptoms of stress and tension.
  • Feelings of calm, well-being and balance.
  • It’s has an effect physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Reflexology can enhance feelings of wellbeing and can be a useful complementary therapy for those living with chronic conditions alongside conventional medical care.

Here at the Treatment Tree we believe that by tackling the early signs of stress and tension, through a Reflexology treatment, you can relieve the symptoms and possibly prevent further development of more chronic problems. It is advisable to contact your GP if you have any stress induced signs and symptoms to ensure that there are no underlying conditions.

Who’s it suitable for?

Reflexology is suitable for all ages; men, women and children. Some groups of people may require a modified treatment, the elderly, children and in pregnancy.

A course of treatments is recommended to kick start your body into action. Typically people respond well with 6 to 8 treatments. Weekly, twice weekly or monthly may be recommended. However it is entirely up to each individual how many sessions they have and how often they receive them.
People often find it beneficial to continue with regular maintenance treatments to maintain health and a feeling of well-being.

If you have a medical condition or take prescribed drugs it would be worthwhile just checking with your doctor if reflexology is suitable for you. You can also sign an informed consent stating the treatment has been fully explained and you are willing to proceed with a treatment.

I would advise individuals that are currently suffering from a fever, diarrhoea or vomiting or those who have any contagious infection, such as athlete’s foot, verruca and so on refrain from treatment until the condition has cleared.

Pregnant women in the first 12 weeks should avoid receiving any treatment, after which a modified treatment can be performed.
